Consumers have as their legal right, the option to leave a 100 word statement on their credit report in which they can try to justify a stubborn negative item. While it is certainly frustrating that a potential unwarranted derogatory item remain on your credit report, we here at best legal credit repair advise against leaving a 100 word statement. Leaving a statement does not really help you as the consumer. Although The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires the credit bureaus to accept and publish a statement from consumers in the case that an item has been disputed and verified by a creditor. To wit: Section 611 (b): "Statement of dispute. If the reinvestigation does not resolve the dispute, the consumer may file a brief statement setting forth the nature of the dispute. The consumer reporting agency may limit such statements to not more than one hundred words..."
Our advice to our credit repair customers is quite simple. We advise that consumers do not leave a 100 word statement. Contrary to what the credit bureaus would like you to believe, the fact is that lenders do not consider credit report statements when looking at your credit file. In fact, we feel that any such statements that you leave will only raise a red flag and attract attention to the issue. In the long run, it does not help you in your credit repair efforts and does not look good on your credit reports.
